Kitty’s and Punchycards.

Good Evening, for those who have not yet discovered the Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace & Babbage I suggest that you do. Not only is the artwork just gorgeous, the story’s are beyond description. While they are based on real historical facts, they have been trundled into a pocket dimension to increase the possibilities for mayhem and mathematics. Sydney Padua the creator of this wonderfully detailed and researched webcomic also has a very lovely personal site well worth spending a few hours looking through. *cough* ok then, now that I have most of the fan girl out of my system onward! While ogling the 2D Goggles blog I discovered the recent post :

At this point even though I am more of a dog person (I have a mini mini Jack Russell) I decided that these were the most gorgeous cats I’d ever laid eyes on. Naturally this meant when I was left alone with some glitter card and scissors, this happened;

I point out that these are a direct copy, all the skill is Sydney Padua, I just added glitter :D

It was actually very straight forward to make these guys and they benefited from some springs to give them a little height and natural shadows. 20130426-181018.jpg
So… Yes I have been avoiding one of my comic pages… It’s complicated :/ but I now have no excuse and will have to go draw it.

So I have been Spennding alot of time on kickstarter lately, and its a dangerous place. it ranks up there with ThisIsWhyIAmBroke for its skills in wallet bleeding.

Just ogign to post a few ive been watching na look forward to as well as a shout out to the other comickers who recently Got successfully funded.

First up Games!

Barista Blast: A Cafe Management Sim, This was a fun find while browsing.

I was reading about all the issues with Sim-City and its grand scope and the whole societal look and it got me to  thinking it was kinda macro in scale and if anything it seems a little impersonal i like the micromanaging little details and mixing and preparing your ownn drinks.. It makes a little part in the back of my head tingle with Old skool spreadsheeting delight, this wont be the reason so many of you will love it though. its design is cute the ambitions for  the extra content is unique. Seriously Check it out and Back up the brinks truck ^^

Zombicide Season 2 – Wait you haven’t Heard of Zombicide? the Hit Tabletop Zombie adventure game? with great little models and tongue in cheek almost guest celebrity character appearances? Stop reading Right now! Go to the page… read, absorb and tell me you don’t want to put down the controller/touchscreen and play with some real mans toys.

ThreadCount!: The Tale of Norman Crest : The Quest, for the Crest!

Thread-Count, the Oddest of Powers, The Most lecherous of men, Who needs X-ray vision when you can control a wardrobe malfunction, Norman Crest is a hero for the ages. part thread, part rich entitled orphan Archaeologist this man has it all.

Love the premise to this comic and the art is excellent work by Jay A. De Foy, Humour and adventure, A Great detail and character design without looking to smooth. I like this enough that i have been trying to avoid looking at the dialogue balloons in the Sample pictures on the kickstarter so i don’t give anything way when this arrives in my grubby little paws

Tripping over you :

Tripping over you is a fine web-comic by Suzana Harcum and Owen White, A Same Sex relationship Comic and the trials and burdens that beset them is all here to read on the Website.

This is a Push to Publish TOY for its fans and for those of us who have a Hard copy fetish ^_^ I highly recommend this comic its got so much heart and honesty in it, Go read the archives, Check it out and when you have to much of the feels go to the kickstarter and Back it ^_^

GOLDTIGER : Classic Newspaper Comic, The history behind this strip is far to deep for me to jump into here but check out their   Kickstarter, We were first introduced to GOLDTIGER at Though Bubble in Leeds, It was Originally to be part of ACES Weekly but decided to go the Crowd Funded route to get the complete publishing of the Book and all its History and additional Art together rather than in segments. they have really gone all out with the design of the book and the retouching of the art and speech balloons from old Newspaper print quality is fantastic. I you like classic adventure and action in newspaper format you cant get any rarer or Weirder.

Tomorrow Girl: Dresden Codak Vol1 – Dresden Codaks a Webcomic i never got into when i first heard about it so i am playing catch up now by Checking out this Kickstarter. I cant give to much opinion other than I LOVE DINOSAURS and the Art is Yummy ^_^ If your like me Know aobut the comic but havent Gone to check it out before. FOLLOW THE LINK

A toy shop in November…

… Is nearly as scary a place to work as a Toy shop in December.

Widdershins (http://www.widdershinscomic.com/) was one of the fliers that I picked up when at Thought Bubble 2012, I’ve just finished what’s up so far and want more. It’s just lovely. The characters are entertaining, the style is consistent and very effective for the story, and the story is excellent. I’ll probably say this a lot.. Go read it! It’s worth the time to start at the beginning.

Hemlock is another great one, I suspect I found a link for it while searching twitter for information on Thought Bubble as I haven’t found a card or flier yet.. It’s a very different kettle of fish with very strong characters, a slower paced story, but just wonderful illustrations, I could have spent all day just appreciating them.

Those are my Webcomic recommendations for today, I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! And I’ll be back soon with a NCMVC update :)

Thought Bubble Festival 2012

I had a brilliant time! Anyone who isn’t sure about going to Thought Bubble 2013 stop worrying, it’s brilliant. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the panels that I went to were all interesting and thought provoking.

I managed to, surprisingly, not totally become broke from the two excellent halls of traders… Admittedly I have a limited amount I can get back on the flight home. they have besome rather strict about hand luggage. So even if I fill Johns bag as well… Na he needs the space.
So instead I collected every web address or business card I came across with the plan to spent the next 2 weeks really looking at them carefully and with active interest.

With that said I did buy some things, firstly ‘The Arrivals’ an entry steam punk graphic novel Clockwork Watch – Arrivals with beautiful artwork and an excellent storyline, it leaves you really wanting to know more.
Conveniently the most excellent creators have helped, they from the beginning set up an online and real life community around the books, yes books, book 2 is due out next year (I also bought the preview for book 2 that they had with them) and the third some time after that.
It’s well work a good look and a few hours to immerse yourself in the world they have created.

Look out for the fabulous costumes….

To my delight Clockwork Watch also ran a panel on Sunday explaining who they were, where the story came from and where, where indeed they are going with it. It was a good informative panel and I’m very glad I attended it. (I was the one with the blue fluffy Eskimo coat) I wish them all the very best and wonder if they have plans for any events in Ireland?

Speaking of panels, we went to the ‘Web Comics and digital distribution 2.0′ panel on Saturday, it again was excellent, a lot of food for thought there, Derm already mentioned a fair bit in his post so check out the Capow link it has a lot of potential, and the opinion of motion comics was made abundantly clear.
The panel has prompted us to discuss further the way we work on our own story here at NCMVC and a few things we could try with it.

I also met the lovely Tanya Roberts again, and got my hands on her lovely new issue, ‘Forgotten Muse’ both a copy for myself and Marian ( www.thisisfriz.com ) not to mention had a brilliant evening with John and Tanya at a Burlesque evening her husband was involved in.

It was a great evening in an excellent weekend, the show was classy and stylish and the girls were just brilliant. Not to mention they had the Gentleman Rhymer Mr B as the host.

Leeds Thought Bubble – My Thoughts bubbling

So Now that we are in Leeds and mostly through the first day of events about the sit through a panel on Comics and society with Mark S. Zaid Esq but I’m thinking of the one we just came out of WebComics and digital Distribution 2.0

 

The panel was very enlightening with a lot of stuff to take on board for work with this particular project, Everything from rebuilding infrastructure of the site, avenues of distribution, hate for Motion Comics (Thanks Mark Waid) and the organic Growth and change of the systems we have in place for viewing comics.
